– It won’t be the first time that the Hojgaard brothers, Rasmus and Nicolai, play together as professionals, but this time they will do it on a Saturday, movement day, in the penultimate match of a great tournament like this Hero Dubai Desert Classic, the first Rolex Series of the year. Something like this had not been seen before, but it was only a matter of time, given the quality of the Danish twins, who today have signed cards of 70 and 69 strokes, respectively. They start with a cumulative -7 and therefore six strokes behind the leader, who at the end of the day has remained the same as the morning shift, Cameron Young (-13), as was almost expected. The Hojgaards start playing from 12.27, local time, and it would only be missing that they did it with the same colours, to add more excitement to the matter.
– The American, however, has been approached a little more on the leaderboard by a player who is in fashion, Adrian Meronk (-10), who has signed a card of 66 strokes in the evening shift. The Pole is not letting down that 38 percent of his European circuit colleagues who voted him as player of the year (percentage more than enough to take that Seve Ballesteros Award), ahead of the McIlroys or Rahm. There are not a few who are convinced that this same year Meronk is going to smash it, as it is usually said, on the PGA Tour. Well, then you have to go there and prove it, but this guy certainly has the ‘profile’ to succeed on the most important circuit in the world. Meronk has handed in a bogey-free card today and is postulated as a clear candidate for victory.
– It does not seem that in this 2024, on the 35th anniversary of the tournament, the seventh victory of Spanish golf, dominator by countries of the cotarro. Alex del Rey (-4) and Manu Elvira (-4), are the ones who are closer to the head, but they start nine strokes behind. However, up to nine players from the Armada have made the cut, out of the eleven who started on Thursday, and they all still have room to make some good noise. Of course, everything goes through really moving on Saturday. Only Adri Arnaus and Ángel Hidalgo have been left out, precisely who did it best here twelve months ago.
– It is fair to mention the barbarity starred by Masahiro Kawamura (-6), who started today by hole 10 and started with four consecutive birdies (holes 10, 11, 12 and 13), to then hole from the 14th fairway, hitting more than 150 meters from the hole, and add one more birdie on the 15th for a partial of seven under for his first six holes. Partial that then became eight under in the first nine holes and ten under in the first twelve… Then he was going to cool down and ended up signing a round of 63 strokes, go figure. And tomorrow will be another day.
