The end of the second day of the Alfred Dunhill Championship has left Marcus Kinhult (-11) at the top of the leaderboard, with a three-shot lead over his closest challengers, among whom the presence of one of the many local idols, Dean Burmester (-8), stands out. The Swede dominates with authority after 36 holes at Leopard Creek, but on this course, precisely on this course, surprises (and setbacks) are the order of the day, so Kinhult will have to play golf very well to once again taste the sweetness of victory on the European circuit, more than five years after his victorious debut.

– Joel Moscatel (-6) has signed one of the best scorecards of the afternoon session (the second-best score, in fact), a 66 that has placed him high on the leaderboard, five shots behind the leader, but only two from second place. The Catalan, who is debuting his full playing rights on the DP World Tour, had missed the cut in both tournaments in Australia, so surely his excellent performance on this hot South African afternoon will be a well-deserved relief.

It is the first time this 2025 season that he has truly ‘shown his hand’ and he has done so in style and in a very delicate setting, where good play is usually rewarded, it is true, but where mistakes are also often penalised with extreme severity. Joel has signed up to nine birdies, two of them on the last two holes of the course, holes 17 and 18, to head to the hotel with an unbeatable feeling.

Also, Ángel Ayora (-3) has done his homework with a score of 70 strokes based on a surgical exploitation of the four par-fives of the South African course, where he has signed four birdies. At just 20 years old, it is surprising that consistency, solidity, is one of the virtues of the Andalusian player’s game at the start of his professional career. It is the third tournament he plays in the 2025 season and the third cut he makes. Now it’s about gaining positions over the weekend…

Moscatel and Ayora join Nacho Elvira (-5), Manu Elvira (-3), and Jorge Campillo (-1), who had already secured their presence in the weekend during the morning session. Pablo Larrazábal (+7) and Álvaro Quirós have been left out, with Quirós withdrawing today halfway through the round due to severe neck pain, which he had already woken up with in the morning and which did not subside, despite having seen a physio before going out to play.
