Marco Penge has had enough. The PGA Championship has been the last straw. Or rather the health problems he has been dealing with since last November that have yet to be resolved. It is nothing so serious that he cannot play, but it is significant enough that he cannot give his all in every tournament he competes in. The Englishman has grown tired of being half-hearted and has chosen to take a break.

Penge, winner of the Open de España en el Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in October last year, has explained that he has been suffering recurring problems with his ear, neck and nervous system since a viral infection last November. Shortly before the PGA Championship he suffered from sinusitis and began to experience symptoms related to an episode of vertigo. All this led him to undergo all kinds of tests and scans on his head, neck and other parts of his body.

The test results were positive and reassuring, as no abnormalities were found. Penge himself celebrated this on his social media. However, after finishing the PGA Championship, where he missed the cut, and feeling that he is not yet one hundred per cent, Penge has decided to take a breather. He is taking an indefinite break.

“I’ll be back as soon as I feel fit and healthy,” he told the DP World Tour. “That could be in two weeks or in two months, right now I don’t know. But I hope to be at the US Open. The sooner, the better!” .

It looks as though Penge will not return to play until the US Open. That means he will be away from competition for at least three weeks. He is expected to play at Shinnecock Hills, although it will depend on how those problems evolve and whether they allow him to focus solely on golf.

So far this year Penge has played twelve tournaments, including the Masters, where he did make the cut, and the PGA, where he missed it. His best result was a fourth place at the Valspar Championship in Florida. It was also his only top 10 and he missed five cuts, including the one at the THE PLAYERS Championship. Remember that Marco Penge holds cards on the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour and is alternating between both tours.
