Matthieu Pavon, reigning champion of the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid, has confirmed his presence at the next edition of the tournament, which is held for the fifth consecutive year at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 26 to 29 September.

The Frenchman, currently world number 23, obtained in Madrid just ten months ago a victory that changed his life. 185 tournaments later he achieved his first triumph in the DP World Tour and catapulted himself in the Race to Dubai ranking. Just a few weeks later he secured one of the ten PGA Tour cards thanks to a scandalous end in the last tournament of the year of the European Circuit.

Not content with that, Matthieu has lifted the champion’s trophy of the Farmers in just his third tournament of the season on the American circuit and securing rights for two years. Pavon has even had time to shine in the Masters of Augusta (T12) and to make a top 5 in the US Open playing in the stellar match on Sunday alongside Bryson DeChambeau. In addition, the Frenchman has been able to fulfill the dream of playing the Olympic Games that were held at home. It probably wasn’t the dream result, but a year ago that goal was almost a chimera.

Without a doubt, the Open de España opened the way and the Frenchman will present himself for the first time in his career as the defending champion. A pressure not easy to manage.

“Winning the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid last year was incredibly special for me,” said Pavon. “It was a milestone in my career, and I will keep the memories of that day at the Club de Campo for a long time. It was the catalyst for some incredible months of golf for me, and I am looking forward to returning to Madrid, competing again, and playing in front of the passionate Spanish public. Their energy and support create a fantastic atmosphere, and I can’t wait to experience all of that again.”

From the next 26th of September, Matthieu Pavon will try to win his second title in Madrid.
