The organisation of the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid which kicks off this Thursday at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid has announced this afternoon the schedules and groups for the first two rounds of the tournament. A schedule that draws attention to the fact that Jon Rahm, the tournament’s biggest star, will change the usual ‘timing’ of previous editions where he played on Thursday morning and Friday afternoon to attract more spectators to the course with the aim of having a few more hours of rest.
The man from Barrika lands tomorrow afternoon in the capital of Spain and will go out to play less than 24 hours later without having had the chance to go to the course beforehand. The illness that forced him to withdraw from the team final of LIV Golf in Dallas last weekend and the birth of his daughter have forced him to delay his arrival at the tournament. Thus, this time he will play in the afternoon shift on Thursday, with a few more hours of rest, and on Friday morning.
His Thursday match will start at 2.00 p.m. alongside Frenchman Matthieu Pavon, winner of the last edition of the Open de España, and Austrian Sepp Straka, another of the event’s stars. On Friday they will start at 9.10 a.m. from the 10th tee to complete their first 36 holes and try to achieve their first goal of the week to make the cut and start to take positions to fight for the win.

Another of the big matches this week at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will be the one contested by Nacho Elvira, winner this season on the tour, Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry. It will be the main attraction of the Thursday morning shift, starting from the 10th tee at 9.10 a.m., and the Friday afternoon shift, from the 1st tee at 2.00 p.m. It is the duel with which the organisation ‘counterprograms’ the usual change of plans with Jon Rahm.
In addition, much attention should be paid to the match between David Puig, Andy Sullivan… and Edoardo Molinari. The Italian is Luke Donald‘s right-hand man on the European Ryder Cup team. The golfer from La Garriga, who is not a member of the DP World Tour, could not be selected at this time to play representing the Old Continent in Bethpage next year, but the captain and his assistants have already started their work and want to see the Spaniard up close in case his situation, with negotiations open between LIV Golf and the rest of the circuits, changes from now until then. They will play tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. from the 10th tee and on Friday from the 1st tee starting at 1.20 p.m.
Other interesting matches in these first two rounds of the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid will feature José Luis Ballester, Richie Ramsay and Yannik Paul; Jorge Campillo, Matteo Manassero and Tyrrell Hatton; Santi Tarrio, Eugenio López Chacarra and Yuto Katsuragawa; Pablo Larrazábal, Matt Wallace and Aaron Rai; or Ángel Hidalgo, Dylan Fritelli and Joe Dean, among others. A lot of level in this edition of the prestigious Spanish tournament on the DP World Tour.
