José Luis Ballester, recent winner of the US Amateur, the first Spaniard to achieve this title in the history of this prestigious competition, will compete in the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid, which will take place at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid between the 26th and 29th of September.

The young golfer from Castellón, 21 years old and still an amateur, will be another great attraction to witness this tournament, a reference in the history of Spanish golf, integrating an interesting roster of renowned professional golfers.

Among them is the Englishman Tommy Fleetwood, silver medallist at the recent Paris 2024 Olympic Games; the Frenchman Matthieu Pavon, defender of the Open de España title won in 2023; the Irishman Shane Lowry, Olympic flag bearer for his country, winner of the British Open in 2019; the Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, with a brilliant record behind him…

A player with a solid training, author of a brilliant career since he started playing at Mediterráneo Golf -the home of Sergio García-, José Luis Ballester has built a very outstanding sports curriculum since he was a child, which has made him a special golfer.

Indeed, José Luis Ballester accumulates very outstanding victories that began when he won, in 2013, the Spanish Benjamin Championship for under 10 years. He was subsequently the best, among other relevant tournaments, in the Spanish Alevín Championship 2015; the Spanish Children’s Championship 2016 and 2017; the Spanish Sub 16 Championship 2019; the S. M. El Rey Cup 2020; the European Individual Absolute Championship 2023, in addition to contributing to Spain winning the gold medals in the European Absolute Team Championships 2022 and 2023.

However, his personal career experienced a before and after on August 18, when José Luis Ballester became the first Spanish player to win the US Amateur, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world that have in their showcases legends like Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson, where precisely Sergio García, semi-finalist in 1998, was until then the best precedent.

Just on the day he turned 21, José Luis Ballester overcame in the grand final of the US Amateur, held over 36 holes with a large crowd, the American Noah Kent by 2up.

To reach that point, it should be noted that nearly 5,000 golfers applied for a place in this US Amateur 2024, only 311 getting it. Among all of them, José Luis Ballester was the best, a huge success that brings with it other prizes of enormous value: invitations -if he continues to maintain amateur status- to compete in the Augusta Masters and the US Open in 2025 and, now at the end of September, to play the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid, which has among its distinguished Spanish winners Severiano Ballesteros and Jon Rahm.

Tickets for the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid are already available through the official tournament website.
