There is now official confirmation. Jon Rahm, as Ten Golf anticipated, is going to play the Acciona Open of Spain. At least, from a bureaucratic point of view, he has a clear path. This Thursday at one in the afternoon, Spanish peninsular time, the deadline to appeal the sanction imposed by the DP World Tour and arrive in time to play in Madrid ended. He has pushed the deadline to the limit, but he has submitted it.
Ten Golf has received confirmation from the DP World Tour. “Jon Rahm has a pending appeal against the sanctions that were imposed on him and in accordance with the DP World Tour Regulations, he is eligible to participate in the Acciona Open of Spain presented by Madrid at the end of this month,” commented an authorised source from the European circuit.
So, what Ten Golf anticipated is confirmed. Rahm does not have an agreement with the DP World Tour about the sanctions. Moreover, the positions are quite entrenched at the moment. The golfer from Barrika understands that the European circuit has not been clear from the beginning and they have been changing their version. Therefore, there is finally no agreement and the only solution to play the Open of Spain has been to submit this appeal.
Now, the punishment established by the circuit is provisionally suspended until there is a final decision by the single judge who is going to study the case in London. Once there is a final sentence, if a solution to the conflict that world golf is experiencing has not occurred before, we will see what happens with Jon’s future and the DP World Tour, whether he pays the fines and whether he plays the Ryder Cup. For now, what has been done is to buy time and give the option in the coming months for Rahm to play the minimum tournaments in the DP World Tour to be eligible for the Ryder Cup.
