Luke Donald has already made his decision. The Englishman steps forward once again and will return as captain of the European team for the Ryder Cup in the next edition in 2027, which will be held at Adare Manor in Ireland. Ten Golf can confirm that it is now official, to the extent that in a few minutes it will be announced by the DP World Tour itself.

Thus, Donald will lead the Old Continent team for the third time. He has the significant backing of two consecutive victories achieved in Italy and Bethpage, as well as the unanimous support of all the players who have been under his command. He will be the first captain to lead three consecutive Ryder Cups since Bernard Gallacher in the 1991, 1993, and 1995 editions. Before the Scotsman, the Englishman Tony Jacklin managed a sequence of four Ryders as captain.

The decision was in the hands of Luke Donald. The DP World Tour wanted him, and so did the players. The only thing left was for him to decide to venture for the third time. Throughout this time, he has said that the main obstacle to making this decision was his family, specifically his daughter. She is in her last year at home before heading off to university, and Donald wants to spend time with her. This has been part of the negotiations with the European Tour, namely how much time Donald will have to spend in Ireland from now until 2027. Let’s remember that the Englishman lives with his family in Florida.

Beyond this operational difficulty, the truth is that Donald is excited about the challenge of becoming the first European captain to win the Ryder Cup three times in a row. Tony Jacklin did it, although his last victory in 1989 was not complete, as the Ryder ended in a tie and Europe took the title by the right of the winner to retain the cup in the event of a draw.

Donald will therefore be the captain of Europe in the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, on the centenary of the Ryder Cup, as the first edition was held in 1927. A fitting captain for a milestone date. The big hot potato he currently has in his hands is precisely what will happen with Jon Rahm. Will there be an agreement, and will he be able to count on him, or, on the contrary, will there be no solution, and he will have to do without the Spaniard?
