Adrián Otaegui has just announced through his social media that from this season onwards he will be playing under the flag of the United Arab Emirates. The golfer from San Sebastián will make this significant change effective from his next tournament, which will take place next week in South Africa, the Nedbank Golf Challenge. That is, of course, the plan, unless bureaucracy delays this possibility. Adrián, in fact, already has the United Arab Emirates passport in his name.
Otaegui communicated this via a video on his Instagram account. In his explanations, he considers it the best possible decision for his future and that of his family. He recalls that he has been residing in the Emirates for 13 years, specifically in Dubai, and has always felt very welcomed in the Arab country. Similarly, he explains that for years he has been working with the Emirates Golf Federation as an ambassador, with the aim of fully developing his sport.

During his speech, Otaegui explains that the collaboration from now on will be much closer, with the aim of making golf the number one sport in the country, as well as working for the training and promotion of future golf stars in the Emirates.
Obviously, this announcement is a big surprise. Otaegui is convinced that he can help the growth and development of golf in the Emirates and is very attracted to the project. On a personal level, beyond this work he will undertake, it will also allow him, for example, to compete in the Olympic Games representing the United Arab Emirates.
