There was no golf this Friday at the BMW Australian PGA Championship. It rained a lot. So much so that the Royal Queensland Golf Club was flooded, and it was impossible to hit a single shot. On top of the 200 litres the course already had, another pile of water fell. Unplayable.
With the second day of golf in Brisbane cancelled, the DP World Tour has decided to reduce the tournament to 54 holes. The second round will be played this Saturday, the cut will be made, and the tournament will conclude on Sunday.
Initially, the weather forecast says it won’t rain over the weekend, so it seems it can be finished without problems on Sunday. However, the main difficulty might be starting at six in the morning, as planned. It rained a lot and continued to rain in the afternoon, so we’ll have to see if it’s possible to start the second round on time or if there will be any delays.
Let’s remember that Iván Cantero (-4) is the best-ranked Spaniard, well placed in the top 10, two shots off the lead. Additionally, at one under par are Rafa Cabrera Bello, Sebas García, Alfredo García Heredia, and Manu Elvira. At par is Joel Moscatel, and Ángel Ayora is at +2.
Next week, the Australian Open will be held, so the travel isn’t a major issue. If the finish had to be extended to Monday, there shouldn’t be any problems, although it doesn’t seem necessary.
