The debut of David Puig on the DP World Tour in 2025 already has a date. It will be in two weeks at the Ras al Khaimah Championship, the third stop of the desert swing that serves the European circuit to kick off the year. Additionally, he will also play the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, just the following week. Two consecutive tournaments before starting the LIV Golf season in Saudi Arabia seven days later. Good timing for the golfer from La Garriga.

Puig will play the tournaments in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain with invitations, which highlights two quite evident issues. The first is David’s own intention to play on the DP World Tour, fight for victories in this circuit, combine it with LIV Golf as much as possible and, above all, aim to earn enough points or demonstrate the necessary golf to be in Luke Donald‘s mind for the Ryder Cup. The second issue is that the DP World Tour is also interested in having Puig in their tournaments and for him to get into the fight to be in the Ryder. Otherwise, there would be no invitation.

When he plays in Ras al Khaimah, from 23 to 26 January, Puig will become an affiliate member of the DP World Tour. This means that his points will count towards the Race to Dubai and the Ryder Cup, but he cannot be sanctioned for playing LIV Golf tournaments that coincide in the same week with European circuit events.

There is no doubt that the goal of being in the Ryder Cup while playing in LIV Golf is gigantic, especially for a golfer who has never been in this team competition, but it should not be forgotten that Puig is up for big challenges. Last year he managed to get into the PGA Championship, US Open, Open Championship, and Olympic Games while being in LIV Golf. Precisely, another of the objectives of these two weeks in the desert is to play well enough to enter the world top 100 (currently ranked 102) and earn a spot in the PGA Championship, as well as catch the attention of the Augusta officials with the aim of receiving an invitation, just as has happened with Joaco Niemann or Nicolai Hojgaard. For this, obviously, we are talking about him likely needing to win at least one of the two tournaments and perform very well in the other, in addition to shining in the early weeks of LIV.
