The DP World Tour confirmed this Wednesday the news reported by Ten Golf over a month ago. The Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona returns to the European Tour. It will be the venue for the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship, which will take place from 7th to 10th May next year and is part of the global agreement reached for the organisation of the Ryder Cup 2031 at the Camiral Golf course.
This tournament will be held for five years, from 2026 to 2030 inclusive. Initially, the 2028, 2029, and 2030 editions will be held at Camiral, but an alternative had to be found for the first two years, as the Ryder course needs to undergo significant renovations to complete the new composite course (formed by the union of the Stadium and the Tour) that will host the Ryder 2031.
The DP World Tour confirmed this news through the announcement of the 2026 calendar, which was released this Wednesday, coinciding with the BMW PGA Championship, the circuit’s flagship tournament. It should be noted that they have managed to bring forward the timelines compared to previous years to make this announcement.
In addition to the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship, the DP World Tour calendar includes, of course, the Spanish Open, which will return to be held in October, from the 8th to the 11th, at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, provided there are no changes from now until then.
Other highlighted details of the calendar:
– The season starts again at the end of 2025 in Australia, South Africa, and Mauritius.
– The Dubai Invitational returns, and for now, the Ras al Khaimah Championship does not appear, although there is a reserved date in that area of the world for after the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the Bahrain Championship.
– The week before and after the Masters are once again rest weeks. There is another free week before the US Open Championship and three more coinciding with the last two weeks of August and the first of September. We will see if a new tournament fits in there.
– The week of the Nexo Championship in August, which came out to replace the Czech Masters, reappears unassigned, although it is assured that there will be a tournament in Europe.
– The Back Nine remain exactly the same as this year and conclude, after a week of rest, once again in Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Finale.
