Rory McIlroy, the newly crowned Masters champion at Augusta, has announced his participation in the Genesis Scottish Open, a tournament of the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour to be held at the Renaissance Club from 10 to 13 July. It will be the third consecutive year he plays it. The Grand Slam has not changed his plans.
The Northern Irishman achieved one of the most memorable feats in recent golf history by completing the Grand Slam in early April, adding the coveted Green Jacket to his other four major victories: the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, and The Open in 2014.
The current champion of the Race to Dubai —who already won the Genesis Scottish Open in 2023— thrilled fans worldwide with his spectacular victory at Augusta National, triumphing in a thrilling final playoff against his Ryder Cup teammate, Justin Rose.
This marks McIlroy’s third victory in 2025, having also won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and THE PLAYERS Championship of the PGA TOUR. The Northern Irishman returns to East Lothian aiming to repeat his memorable victory from two years ago, when he finished with birdie-birdie to edge out local hero, Robert MacIntyre, by one stroke.
MacIntyre redeemed himself by winning the Scottish Open last season, and both will face other star players like Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas, the six-time PGA TOUR winner Max Homa, and the 2024 Genesis Championship winner, Byeong Hun An.
McIlroy, who made history by becoming the first player to win the national opens of Scotland, Ireland, and The Open, stated: “Winning a national Open is always something special, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to compete again for the Genesis Scottish Open title. It has been a very special year so far, and I am eager to maintain this momentum in the home of golf this summer.”
The Genesis Scottish Open is a co-sanctioned event by the DP World Tour and the PGA TOUR, counting towards both the Race to Dubai and the FedExCup. Genesis, the South Korean luxury car brand, serves as the main sponsor. The Scotland edition follows the Genesis Invitational held at Torrey Pines in February, won by the European Ludvig Åberg.
Fans will also enjoy a unique experience with the pop-up venue Fringe by the Tee, in collaboration with the Fringe by the Sea festival, featuring a headline performance on Saturday by KT Tunstall, Grammy-nominated and Brit Awards-winning artist.
