The Porsche Singapore Classic is set for the final round verdict, that of Sunday. As many players warned in the days leading up to the start of the tournament, it seems that this year the winner will not go up to -19, winning result in 2023, or at least it will not be necessary to reach -14 to get into the top ten, as happened in the edition twelve months ago.

Be that as it may, at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club anyone who aspires to victory needs to dance with grace (and cunning) on a line that at times seems very thin… It is graphically explained by Alejandro del Rey, who tomorrow starts five strokes from the lead and, therefore, still with some chance of causing a stir if everything goes smoothly in his final round. “It’s a course where the line between doing well or not is very thin: if you get carried away you can make few, but as things start not to go your way, suddenly everything turns around and it seems very hard to subtract”.

And why does this happen in a more pronounced way than on other courses? The player from Madrid clarifies: “There are many flags where apparently you can make easy birdies if you are in a position to attack, because, although they are located in small sections of the green, it seems that everything falls towards the hole. However, if you are out of position it is very difficult to get the ball to these small sections of the greens, and then not only do you not subtract strokes from the course, but you can also easily add”.

Cunning and patience, therefore, become essential, not to attack when you should not, because it is normal that you are not always in the ideal position to do so. “That’s one hundred percent, you have to have that patience. On most holes you find very hidden flags, but accessible if you are on the fairway, and yet from the rough it is costing a lot this week, because it is higher than last year”, he explains.

The roadmap of the Spaniard in search of glory, of his first victory in the DP World Tour, is not simple. It seems that at least he should sign a card similar to today’s (65), if not better. It will be easier for him to achieve it if he maintains the good performances shown in the first three rounds in the par 5 of the Laguna National, in which he currently has a partial of -9, identical to that of Adri Arnaus, only surpassed by that of Francesco Laporta (-11), although the Italian is out of the fight for victory.
