There will be no golf this Wednesday at the Final Stage of the DP World Tour being played at Infinitum Golf. At 19:12 on Tuesday evening, a message from Civil Protection was sent to all mobile phones in the Tarragona area with the following warning: “Continuous and torrential rain. Tomorrow, Wednesday, from 6 am to 24 hours, mobility is restricted in Baix Camp, Baix Ebre, Montsià, Ribera d’Ebre, and Tarragonés. School, university, and sports activities are suspended, and day centres are closed” (sic).
The European Tour’s plan was to play the little that remains of the fifth round this Wednesday starting at half-past eight in the morning and the sixth and final round no earlier than half-past nine. However, the political authorities themselves have said no. Infinitum Golf, as a sports facility, must be closed all day. Thus, the DP World Tour has had no choice but to suspend the round. Therefore, the Final Stage will end on Thursday with the same plan that was scheduled for tomorrow.
Obviously, this unforeseen situation will cause some disruptions in the Final. To begin with, it is normal for there to be more than one or two withdrawals in the coming hours from players who no longer see themselves with a chance of securing one of the twenty cards and ties that the Final offers. On the other hand, the day of rest will be very beneficial for many of the golfers who are already at their limits of tension and fatigue, especially mentally.
Thus, there will be no golf this Wednesday at Infinitum, and the Final Stage will conclude on Thursday, coinciding with the first round of the Dubai Final taking place in Jumeirah.
