The first weekend of July, as is now tradition, will be the date of an amateur golf tournament that has become a classic on the calendar and is set for another sell-out. From 3 to 5 July, MTDG holds its Major at its permanent venue: the Balneario de Mondariz in Galicia.
This year the Torneo de las Banderas celebrates its tenth anniversary, coinciding with a very special milestone that will also serve as the central theme of the tournament. Jon Rahm marks ten years as a professional. Don’t even think about missing it.
At MTDG tournaments, golf is the excuse. Gastronomy and enjoying a fun weekend are the central ideas of the event. So much so that the traditional costume contest is usually fiercely competitive.
Also, being held in Galicia, the event takes on even greater significance. The Romería Gallega dinner is unbeatable.
In terms of support, the Torneo de las Banderas couldn’t be better accompanied. In addition to the support of Turismo de Galicia, there are other brands that do not hesitate to back the event.
Yutravel, a Galician tour operator, will raffle a trip for two to Madeira that includes flights, hotel, transfers and green fees at two great courses (Santo da Serra and Palheiro Golfe).
After the Saturday round, and thanks to Alma Atlántica from bodegas Martín Códax and Citadelle Gin, attendees will be able to enjoy a 19th hole as tradition dictates. And if that weren’t enough, Balneario de Mondariz will provide stays with green fees at some of the best resorts in Spain and Portugal.
XXIO and Srixon are the brands chosen by MTDG for the equipment raffle and the tournament welcome pack.
In the welcome pack, attendees will receive a Srixon cap with a ball marker, a dozen Srixon AD333 balls and a copy of the book “Jon Rahm. Señalado por los dioses”. In addition, the raffle will include two drivers, two woods, two hybrids, a set of irons, four bags and many more items.
At MTDG tournaments, non-playing companions have their own welcome pack and activity programme, instead of green fees, so there’s no chance of boredom. Thus, non-players will have access to the thermal circuits at the Balneario de Mondariz and treatments at its SPA to return home feeling like new.
Finally, the prize that gives the tournament its name. This year marks 10 years since Jon Rahm turned professional. Since then, El León De Barrika has enjoyed great successes that MTDG commemorates in the flags that will be raffled at the tournament. Some of them, including those from his two Majors, are relics of Spanish golf.

US Open 2021 signed by Jon Rahm.
The Masters 2023 signed by Jon Rahm.
Ryder Cup 2023 Rome signed by the entire European team.
Irish Open 2019 signed by Jon Rahm.

For those who can spare an extra day, we recommend not missing what MTDG has called the “plan plus”. This plan involves also booking the night of Thursday 2 July and it’s well worth it.
In addition to a dinner at the Balneario de Mondariz clubhouse, the programme includes the night approach competition that MTDG holds at its tournaments. A different golf spectacle that will undoubtedly leave no one indifferent. Last year more than 90 attendees enjoyed this show. Seriously, if you can, don’t miss it.
As a major novelty, on one of the tournament nights attendees will be able to enjoy a golf simulator competition thanks to WeSported and its Full Swing simulator. The 17th hole at Pebble Beach will be the target of a fun closest-to-the-pin competition.
