Tiger Woods (+7) has fallen short of making the cut at the US Open. At least, numerically. Two strokes are not to be scoffed at and, the reality is, he has shown no signs of being able to turn the situation around during the round. He has given his all, put all his effort into it, tried in every possible way, but it hasn’t worked out. Be that as it may, beyond the missed cut what stands out most with the 15-time Major champion is the immense frustration he exudes when he is knocked out of a tournament prematurely.
“The goal is always to win. Every week I play it’s the same. To achieve it, the first thing is to make the cut. So right now, yes, I’m very frustrated not to have a chance to win,” he assured as soon as he finished his round.
Woods is frustrated because he has felt competitive. He believes he was not far from playing the second 36 holes today and thinks his golf was ready to play all four days. “I’ve made the highest score I could and it causes me a lot of frustration” he claims. Today he believes he was good enough with the irons to give himself opportunities, but the putter did not accompany when necessary.
Beyond the US Open, Tiger was not very keen to reveal future plans. He was really disappointed. He did confirm that he is going to play the Open Championship at Royal Troon this year and nothing more. Regarding seeing him in a future US Open, Woods left the door open and did not reveal any decision. “Maybe yes, this has been my last US Open, and maybe not, we’ll see”.
Tiger believes he has played well enough to score, but it’s not enough to make the cut. It’s time to work harder and compete better.
