Furyk recruits Captain Bradley for the Presidents Cup

The United States and the International team, or in other words, Jim Furyk and Mike Weir, their top leaders, announced this Tuesday afternoon the selections for the Presidents Cup that will be played in Canada from 26 to 29 September. The two main names of the day were Keegan Bradley, captain of the 2025 Ryder Cup who has been chosen by Furyk, and Nick Taylor, who has been left out of the International team despite winning this year’s Phoenix Open and conquering a year ago the Canadian Open.

Both the United States and the International team already had six players who had qualified directly. For the Internationals were Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Jason Day, Ben An, Tom Kim and Hideki Matsuyama, while for the United States had automatically entered the team Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Sahith Theegala, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark.

Therefore, there were six other selections to complete the team of 12. The first to give the names were the Internationals, as they act as locals in this edition that will be played at the The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec. Mike Weir has bet on the home men, although the absence of Nick Taylor, a player with weight but certainly has not had his best results lately, has surprised. The chosen ones are three Canadians: Mackenzie Hughes, ranked in the points list in 18th place, Taylor Pendrith, who was also not among the six best who had been left out, and Corey Conners, in addition to the Korean Si Woo Kim, a decision in which the great pair he formed with Tom Kim in the last Presidents, the South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and the Australian Min Woo Lee weighed heavily.

Meanwhile, on the part of the United States, Furyk has not complicated his life too much. He has chosen the next six on the points list who had been left out. That is: Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Keegan Bradley, Russell Henley, Brian Harman and Max Homa. The next three on this list were Chris Kirk, Akshay Bhatia and Eric Cole. Perhaps, more than the absence of any of them, the main surprise, although not so much anymore, is that Justin Thomas has been left out, chosen with much controversy, being in worse shape than now for the Ryder Cup in Italy.

The main curiosity of these American elections was to know if Keegan Bradley, who had already been named Furyk’s assistant for this Presidents, right after being named captain of the Ryder, was going to perform the double function. It will finally be so, in a clear warning of what can happen in the next Ryder in case Bradley completes a great season. If there was any doubt about the importance of Keegan at this time in the American team environment, in the image selected by the PGA Tour to announce the USA elections he is right in the center.
