Ángel Hidalgo (+11) buried any chance of making the cut at hole 4 of his second round at the Open Championship. The bunkers of Royal Troon have taken him out of any equation. He went to the street one, had to take it out sideways without hardly gaining distance and ended up again in the green one, needing two strokes to get it out of the sand and, on top of that, the second one without being able to shoot directly to green. As if that were not enough, at hole 6, second par 5, another bunker. Another bogey. “There have been five bunkers in the first six holes. There’s no way. It’s incredible that today I’ve made one stroke less than yesterday. On Thursday I played very well and I just missed putting putts. I made 36, more than anyone on the first day”, said the Malaga-born shortly after handing in the 76-stroke card.
This is his first experience in the Majors and it has not gone well. Among the options that escaped him yesterday with the putt and today’s sand traps, his conclusion is clear: “I have done everything I could to miss the cut”.
