Martin Kaymer has undergone surgery to treat the shoulder problems that have accompanied him over the past year. The German announced this Friday on his social media that the procedure, carried out in Switzerland, has gone well. He now begins a recovery with his sights set on the next season.
«I’m relieved and grateful that the operation has gone well», explains the two-time major champion. According to him, the decision to have surgery came after finally receiving the correct diagnosis, following a particularly difficult year due to the pain.
The player uses the statement to thank those who have supported him: from the search for answers about his injury to the operation. The photographs show the German in hospital, smiling in scrubs and, later, lying in bed.
Physical problems have been affecting his career for some time. In May, during the PGA Championship at Aronimink, Kaymer had already explained how frustrating it was to compete without being able to train consistently. He traced the start of that period to 2021 and acknowledged that injuries and a lack of sufficient rest between tournaments had prevented him from preparing as he needed.
He had also undergone wrist surgery in 2022 and missed this year’s LIV Golf in Adelaide due to a left elbow injury. These are separate from the shoulder problem that has just led him to surgery.
At 41, the German player’s honours include the 2010 PGA Championship, the 2014 US Open and THE PLAYERS that same year, as well as having reached world Number One.
Kaymer does not specify the diagnosis nor set a recovery timeframe. His aim for 2027 is to return to playing without pain, to enjoy it and to regain his form. He closes his message with a short motto: «Step by step».
It should be remembered that Kaymer, according to what Ten Golf has learned, is one of those who has decided to abandon the LIV Golf project and return to the DP World Tour in 2027. His aim now is to do so free of any physical discomfort so he can recover his best level.
