The 155th The Open, which will be held at St Andrews from 11 to 18 July 2027, already has a date for one of its most eagerly awaited off‑course moments. The ticket application process, the traditional ticket ballot, will open next Monday 6 July, from which day fans will be able to request their tickets to attend the return of the oldest major in the world to the home of golf.

Prices will start from £40 for practice days for adults, while tickets for competition days will begin at £150. The Open also retains one of its great hallmarks as a family event: the initiative ‘Kids Go Free’, under which under‑16s can enter free of charge. Since the launch of this programme, almost half a million young people have attended the tournament for free.

There will also be discounted tickets for fans aged between 16 and 24, although both these tickets and the free ones for under‑16s must be applied for through the ballot.

Fans can already register their interest via TheOpen.com until the official opening of the process on 6 July. To submit an application it will be necessary to be part of One Club, the free digital membership programme presented by Mastercard.

Mark Darbon, chief executive of The R&A, underlined the special significance of The Open’s return to St Andrews. “The return of The Open to St Andrews is one of sport’s truly iconic occasions and demand to attend the Championship in the home of golf is always extremely high,” he said.

Darbon also highlighted The R&A’s efforts to elevate the fan experience. “We are committed to delivering a world‑class experience that reflects the stature of The Open. We have recently invested in enhancing the Championship with innovations such as the Last‑Chance Qualifier, the Heroes Classic and more entertainment and activities for fans within the venue,” he explained.

The R&A’s chief executive insisted on the organisation’s determination to keep the tournament accessible to all kinds of audiences. “Whether watching the world’s best players on the Old Course, enjoying the atmosphere or sharing the occasion with family and friends, fans can expect an unforgettable week and exceptional value for money. We want The Open to be accessible to as many people as possible and we are proud to continue offering free entry to under‑16s and discounts for young adults as part of that commitment,” he added.

The R&A already offers general admission tickets alongside various accommodation packages, including the popular Open Camping Village, which is already available to purchase. Fans seeking a more exclusive experience can also explore different hospitality options, with three new packages launched this Monday following record premium advance sales for the Championship.

The 155th Open will mark the tournament’s return to St Andrews for the first time since the historic 150th The Open, held in 2022, when 290,000 spectators attended the Old Course. That edition ended with the extraordinary victory of Cameron Smith, who carded a final round of 64 to lift the Jarra de Clarete.

The impact of that event was enormous: the 150th Open generated more than £300 million in economic benefit for Scotland, including £106 million of direct impact on the Scottish economy and £201 million in global promotion of the destination.

The Open will thus return to St Andrews in 2027 with its usual appeal and with the expectation of very high demand. The race to be at the home of golf will officially begin on 6 July.
