Justin Suh (-23), who was once the Number One Amateur in the World, won the 118th edition of the VISA Open de Argentina this weekend, a Korn Ferry Tour tournament held at the Jockey Club in San Isidro. The American claimed the title with a tournament record score of 257 strokes in total.
With this victory, the 27-year-old player, who had already set the course’s lowest score with 60 strokes and 10 under par in the third round, earns an invitation to participate in the 153rd edition of the Open Championship to be held at Royal Portrush next July. The seventh oldest championship in the world was organized by the Asociación Argentina de Golf and marked its second year within the second division of the US circuit.

“It is an honour for me to win this tournament with so much history and on such a prestigious course. The weather conditions were challenging for everyone, I believe the key was to stay patient and control my emotions. Although I was calm having finished first after the first 54 holes, there were still opportunities, and I couldn’t lose focus in the final round,” commented Suh, a player from California who achieved his second title on the Korn Ferry Tour.
“Qualifying for The Open is very significant for me, it’s one of the majors I’ve always dreamed of playing, and now I will be able to. I am very happy,” remarked the professional who graduated from the University of Southern California and, besides leading the world amateur ranking, played two seasons on the PGA Tour.
In second place, five strokes behind, were Americans Ian Holt, Cole Sherwood, and South Korean S.H. Kim with a total of 262 strokes (-18). The best Latin American in the tournament was Colombian Marcelo Rozo, who finished tied for 11th place with a total of 266 strokes (-14). The best Argentine player in the tournament was Diego Prone, in 16th position with a total of 267 strokes (-13).
