A Final of the School with 15 Spanish golfers is a mixed bag. There’s everything. Great news, some good, possibly bad, and also, why not, dreadful. The second day of the Final of the School of the Ladies European Tour has been a mixed bag for the Spanish golfers. We’ve had more bad than good news, but we mustn’t lose heart because we still have three days of competition ahead and, moreover, the good news is very good, practically excellent.
After the first 36 holes at the Royal Golf Marrakech and Al Maaden Golf Marrakech courses, we have three Spaniards in card positions. This is the excellent news. It’s a great number considering that only 20 and ties make it. Blanca Fernández (-7), Teresa Toscano (-6), and Amaia Latorre (-4) are the ones staying within the target. The cut for the 20th position is precisely at -4. Blanca has played under par again, 71 strokes at the Royal Golf, and is in third place, just one stroke behind the two leaders, Ecuadorian Daniela Darquea (-8) and South African amateur Kaiyuree Moodley (-8).
Meanwhile, Teresa was the best Spaniard today with a great round of 69 strokes at Al Maaden. The player from Huelva has signed six birdies and two bogeys and is in eighth place. Lastly, Latorre scored 72 strokes at the Royal Golf and is in 18th place. It’s early to sign results, but certainly, if three of ours get the card, it could be considered a more than notable success.
After the fourth day, there will be a cut with the top 65 and ties, who will play for the cards on the fifth day at Al Maaden Golf. Well, Paz Marfá (-1), Natasha Fear (-1), and Harang Lee (PAR) are within that provisional cut, which is currently at +1. Yesterday we had seven within the cut, and today we only have six. A small step back.
Given the situation, it’s time to react between tomorrow and the day after. Marta Pérez (+2) suffered a significant setback today with 78 strokes at the Royal Golf, Marta Sanz (+3) also scored 78 at Al Maaden, Clara Moyano (+3) signed 75 at Al Maaden, and Laura Gómez (+4) scored 74 at the Royal Golf. These four still have plenty of room for manoeuvre, as they are three or fewer strokes from the cut.
In a very tight situation are Teresa Díez Moliner (+7), Marina Escobar (+8), Miriam Ayora (+8), María Parra (+9), and María Herráez (+13). We could say that these five golfers no longer have any margin for error.
