– The Scot Kelsey McDonald (-7) was the first to step forward at the Australian WPGA Championship, a Ladies European Tour event that got underway this Thursday at the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club. With this event the European circuit’s four-tournament swing in Australia concludes. McDonald topped the leaderboard after carding a 64, with six birdies, an eagle and a bogey.

– Honours to McDonald for delivering the day’s best score, but it’s impossible not to look at second place, where Hannah Green (-6) already sits, fresh from winning the Australian Open last Sunday and the clear favourite to repeat the feat this week. Green is tied with the English Charlotte Heath. Really, anything other than a victory for the Australian would be almost a surprise.

Harang Lee (-4) has produced the best start among the Spanish players. The Cantabrian golfer posted 67, with six birdies and two bogeys, showing once again that her game is in fine form. Her score has provisionally put her in the top 10, specifically in eighth position.

– A notable showing also from Luna Sobrón, Amaia Latorre, Blanca Fernández y María Parra. All posted 69, two under par, and sit inside the top 25 of the tournament. Good start. They are just two shots off the top 10. Having five of ours among the top 25 after 18 holes is a good sign that very good things could happen this week in kangaroo country, where they roam freely across the course.

– The day’s disappointment came for Marta Martín and Marta Sanz. Both carded +4 and will have to step up on Friday if they want to make the cut and finish the Australian stint by playing all four days
