The second day of competition at the Aramco Team Series in South Korea had to be suspended at 16.15 local time due to the complicated weather conditions that were being experienced at the New Korea Country Club, where the rain was pouring. Later, the organisation of the Ladies European Tour tournament decided to cancel the rest of the day’s play and have the golfers return to the course tomorrow at 6.45 am to complete their cards before the cut of the top 60 in the individual general and the third round is played, from 10.45 am.

At the time of the suspension, Colombian Mariajo Uribe (-5) was leading the standings with a one-stroke lead over local star, South Korean Hoo-Jyo Kim (-4), when both had eight holes left. Uribe overtook the big favourite for victory after sinking a great chip for eagle on the par five of hole 17. Danish Nicole Broch Estrup (-1), German Carolin Kauffmann (-1) and English Charley Hull (-1) share the provisional third position.

In the team competition, the quartet led by Danielle Kang, featuring English Lily May Humphreys, Chinese Tian Xiaolin and amateur Lee, leads the general with 23 under par and two ahead of the team of Swedish Johanna Gustavsson. Remember that the team tournament concludes after the first 36 holes of this Aramco Team Series in Seoul, so when today’s pending cards are completed, early on Sunday, there will be a winning quartet.

For the Spanish, except for Marta Martín (+3), who was tied for 21st place until the suspension, with nine holes to play, and María Hernández (+4), tied for 31st with eight holes ahead and a member of the team led by Uribe who, with a five-stroke deficit and tied for third, still has a chance of victory in the team general, the rest have had a Saturday to forget. Starting with Nuria Iturrioz (+9), who was up in the standings and will presumably miss the cut with a round of 80 strokes on this ‘moving day’.

Luna Sobrón (+8) is one stroke off the provisional cut and has six holes to play. Teresa Díez (+9) is two strokes off with four flags ahead in the early hours of Sunday. Carmen Alonso (+10), with six holes still pending, is three off the +7 that currently marks the line between the top 60 who will play the individual round on Sunday and those who will be left out. While Marta Sanz (+10), with her round completed, and Paz Marfá (+15), with six holes to play, are virtually eliminated.
