The South Korean Hyo Joo Kim (-7), aged 29, has claimed victory at the Aramco Korea Championship, a Ladies European Tour event held from Friday to Sunday at the New Korea Country Club. Although in this second edition of the tournament, the first with the new name, the challenging playing conditions in the first two rounds prevented her from matching the 10 under par with which she won a year ago, her 209 strokes, with two rounds of 70 and a final round of 69, were enough to retain the title.

Kim‘s solid play this week in her home country is evident as she was the only one of the 104 participants to play all three rounds under par. The rain made things very difficult, especially on Friday and Saturday, but the 2014 Evian Championship winner managed to hold on to the course like no one else to take the lead after 36 holes and secure the title this Sunday, resisting the challenge from Swiss Chiara Tamburlini (-5) and her compatriot Seojin Park (-4), a young amateur who closed the event with 65 strokes, the best scorecard of the week in the tournament.

Only eleven players achieved a final score below par, highlighting the difficulties of both the South Korean course and the weather conditions. Unfortunately, none of the four Spanish players who made the cut were among them. The best-ranked was Teresa Toscano (+4), who played one under par this Sunday to finish tied in 33rd position. Luna Sobrón (+5) was 40th, Nuria Iturrioz (+6) finished 52nd; while María Hernández (+12) struggled on this final day of the tournament with 82 strokes to finish 67th.

The individual classification of this Aramco Korea Championship features 1.5 million dollars in prizes after the team event, which concluded after the first 36 holes, distributed an additional half million. The Ladies European Tour will return next week with the Dutch Ladies Open at the Goyer Golf & Country Club in the Netherlands, with a prize fund of 330,000 euros and Jana Melichova defending her title.
