In the third round of the Hero Women’s Indian Open, there have been more rounds under 70 strokes than in the sum of the first and second. And that’s even with the cut already made and the tournament having 51 fewer players. Specifically, there have been thirteen rounds under par and five below 70 strokes, while on Thursday and Friday there were 16 cards under par and four below 70. This slight relaxation in conditions has allowed for some really good rounds, such as the 65 strokes by Belgian Manon de Roey (-3) and Austrian Emma Spitz (PAR). In fact, De Roey has caught the shared lead with English Alice Hewson (-3), with a one-stroke advantage over fellow English Liz Young (-2). They are the only three players under par after 54 holes.
Spanish players Luna Sobrón (+3) and Ana Peláez (+5) also played under par, both delivering cards of 70 strokes. Both are on the hunt for the top 10. Sobrón, with five birdies and three bogeys, is one stroke away from the top ten, and Peláez is three strokes away, after signing a rather eventful round today with six birdies, a double bogey, and two bogeys.
Further back are Mireia Prat (+6), María Hernández (+9), and Paz Marfá (+10). India is the penultimate regular tournament of the season in the LET, and both Marfá and Prat need good results to give themselves a chance to get into the top 70 of the order of merit to keep their card.
