Nuria Iturrioz (-13) has achieved a sensational victory in the individual event of the Aramco Houston Championship, a Ladies European Tour tournament held from Friday to Sunday at the Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas. The 29-year-old Spanish golfer from Son Servera came back from the one-shot deficit she faced in the final round on Sunday to prove once again that she doesn’t need to be at her best (only one top 10 since March on the tour) to find victories.
This curious gift has led her to lift her fifth trophy on the European women’s circuit. And more remarkably, to take another step in her particular ‘conquest’ of the world map: she has won five LET titles on four different continents. She won the Lalla Meryem Cup twice in Morocco, Africa; triumphed in the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic in the emirate, Asia; succeeded in the La Sella Open in Alicante in our country, Europe; and now wins in the United States. She only needs Australia now.
Iturrioz, after signing rounds of 68 and 67 strokes in the first two days of competition, where the team classification was at stake, focused this Sunday on the individual overall to recover the deficit she had compared to fellow Spaniard Carlota Ciganda (-11). Singaporean Shannon Tan (-10) led the standings, with English Charley Hull (-11) in pursuit, but Nuria found the right moment to launch her particular attack.

Between holes 14 and 17, she achieved three birdies in four flags to overtake her rivals and reach the 18th tee, in the day’s star match, with a comfortable two-shot margin. Par was enough to, with a card of 68 strokes, with six birdies and two bogeys, claim victory and continue expanding her record. Nuria thrives when the challenge is most important, with victories in significant tournaments, and the higher her competitors’ level. Now she just needs to give consistency to her game and results so that winning becomes more common for her (one title in 2016, two in 2019, and the last until today, in 2023).
Iturrioz’s comeback left Carlota without a trophy and without the chance to at least have played a playoff with Hull, with whom she ended up sharing second place. Luna Sobrón (-7) narrowly missed the top 10 with 71 strokes on Sunday, while María Hernández (+3), the fourth Spaniard who had made the cut yesterday, had to settle for a final round of 76 strokes to finish tied in 58th position. It has taken a few months, since Carlota’s victory in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España at the end of 2024, but the LET speaks Spanish again.
