Not by foul play, but certainly under the cover of darkness. That is how the French Agathe Laisné took victory today at the Ladies Joburg Open, a tournament on the Ladies European Tour, co-sanctioned with the South African Sunsinhe, which was held at the Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg. Laisné finished tied at -19 with the Australian Kirsten Rudgeley and the local Casandra Alexander and needed five holes of play-off to secure the win. In fact, the final hole was played with the clubhouse fully lit and the headlights of several buggies pointing at the 18th green to help the players. Rudgeley missed a birdie putt of just over two metres and that was the end of the tournament. Alexander fell on the first hole of the play-off
Laisné won the Joburg Open with four rounds of 66, 72, 65 and 69. The course played as a par 73. The Frenchwoman went into the final round one stroke behind the leading duo made up of fellow Frenchwomen Celine Herbin and Camille Chevallier. Both faltered in a very erratic final day. Herbin could only make par and Chevallier collapsed to card an 80. Honours for Herbin who, despite the sour taste of Sunday, had no problem standing at the edge of the green throughout the play-off to congratulate Laisné. A spectacular gesture from a hugely popular player on the tour
It is Laisné’s second win this season on the Ladies European Tour. Her first full season on the LET, after trying her luck on the LPGA without success. She already had victories on the LETAS, even before turning professional, and on the EPSON, and now adds two LET wins following the one she claimed in March at the Ford Women’s NSW Open. With this triumph, Laisné moves to the top of the Order of Merit, ahead of Alexander. The South African did not lose too much ground thanks to her second place in the tournament
As for the Spanish players, a good week for Luna Sobrón (-13) and Blanca Fernández (-8). The Mallorcan finished with a great performance on Sunday (67) and climbed to sole possession of eighth place. It is her first top 10 of 2026. She needed this boost to, in some way, kick-start the season. Luna has completed a very good week. In particular, she started and finished very well. She opened with a 69 and posted rounds of 73 and 70 on the second and third days, in a week marked by bad weather and suspensions, although the 72 holes were ultimately completed
Meanwhile, Blanca slipped back on Sunday, carding a 74, one over par. The Madrid native was also fighting for a spot in the top 10, but in the end had to settle for 19th. Not bad at all. It is also her first top 20 of the year, although Blanca’s season had been much more consistent than Luna’s
Additionally, Ana Peláez finished 24th and Marta Sanz ended 54th. Amaia Latorre, María Parra, Harang Lee and Marta Martín missed the cut
Laisné is, for the moment, the player in form on the Ladies European Tour. Of the five tournaments she has played, she has won two and finished second in another
