Luna Sobrón (-2) has given herself a chance of victory at the Hills Open, a Ladies European Tour tournament taking place in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden. The Balearic golfer has carded a 72 in the second round, with four birdies and five bogeys, placing herself in seventh position, just three shots behind the leading pair: Leonie Harm (-5), a German golfer still seeking her first professional win, and Meja Ortengren (-5), the Cinderella, a Swedish amateur player looking for a big breakthrough. Interestingly, Ortengren, despite being an amateur, has already won as a professional. She did so three years ago in the LETAS. In fact, she has played ten professional tournaments, including some majors, with a record of one win, two third places, another top 10, and only two missed cuts.
One shot behind Ortengren and Harm are Lisa Pettersson, Momoka Kobori, Nastasia Nadaud, and Darcey Hall, the Welsh rookie who is having a spectacular season. The day at the Hills Golf & Sports Club was very tough. Challenging conditions, with a lot of wind, and only seven rounds under par, just three below 70. The round of the day was Harm’s, with a sensational card of 66, with five birdies and no bogeys. The German golfer was impeccable from the tee, hitting all the fairways and only missing three greens.
Luna will need to play a bit better than today to truly contend for the win. There’s no faulting her long game, where she was brilliant, with 11 fairways and 15 greens. Where she lost ground was with the putter. She needed 35 putts, with five three-putts. It’s easy to write, but undeniable to reach that conclusion. With three fewer three-putts, she would be tied for the lead.
Regardless, she will have a chance this Sunday. A bit further back, but well placed in the top 10 is Marta Sanz (PAR). The Madrid native will have the chance to give a real boost to her season and straighten things out in the order of merit, where she currently sits at 114th place.
Also making the cut were María Hernández (+5), Blanca Fernández (+6), Harang Lee (+6), Teresa Toscano (+7), Clara Moyano (+7), and Marta Martín (+7). Precisely, the +7 result marked the high cut for this week. The only Spanish player to miss out was the Vitoria native Amaia Latorre.
