The Madrid native delivered a scorecard of 71 strokes on the north course of Green Eagle, which is a par 73, placing her in the top twenty of the tournament from the outset. The course, nicknamed for its difficulty and length, couldn’t overcome the experienced 32-year-old player.
The Spaniard sealed an excellent stretch between holes 4 and 7 with three birdies in just four flags. From there, she strung together nine consecutive pars, and a solitary bogey on the 17th prevented her from finishing the day among the top ten. The Spaniard is eager for good results as her best position of the year was 35th in Morocco almost five months ago, and she is currently beyond the 120th position in the Order of Merit. There’s a lot of the season left, but a round like this Thursday’s is surely a great boost for the rest of the tournament.

One of the tournament’s main attractions is undoubtedly the debut of Carla Bernat (+2) in a Ladies European Tour event outside our country and only the fourth of her career on the circuit. The still amateur player held her own on the course, although she finished with a scorecard of 75 strokes. The par fives were challenging for her, resulting in a +2 total. She is currently just outside the cut line. Remember, the top 60 and ties will play over the weekend. María Hernández (+2) started with an identical result to the ANWA champion.
Those who suffered more harshly from the course’s claws were Blanca Fernández (+5) and Clara Moyano (+9), who will need to fly very low this Friday if they want a chance to play over the weekend in Germany.
