Splendour in the grass. Just like a movie, the performance of the Spanish golfers in the final of the Ladies European Tour School being held in Morocco has been remarkable, with only 18 holes remaining. With one round to go, we have five of our own in card positions, one more on the brink, and two others with very interesting chances. Thirteen Spanish golfers started this final, and up to eight cards could be achieved. A wonderful feat.
Today, the third round took place. Some played at the Royal Golf Marrakech and others at the Al Maaden Marrakech. Tomorrow it will be the other way around, completing the four rounds to which this final was reduced after a first day where barely any play was possible due to rain. The top 20 and ties at the end of the 72 holes will earn the LET card for 2026.
Marta Sanz (-11) is leading this stellar display by the Spanish golfers. The Madrid native delivered another excellent card of 67 strokes today at the Royal Golf, with six birdies and a solitary bogey, placing her in sixth position. She is in a very good position. Nothing can be taken for granted because we know how unpredictable this sport can be, but she has a comfortable cushion of four strokes over the 20th place. She needs to finish strong and end on a high note to bring herself joy after a long period of challenges. In any case, she can play it safe. She has created this margin with her golf.
A bit further back, in 13th place, we have three Spanish players sharing hopes. The three ‘Americans’. Carla Tejedo (-8), with a conditional card from the LPGA Tour, Carolina López Chacarra (-8), who has just secured American rights through the school, and Julia López (-8), a full member of the LPGA, will start this Saturday with a one-stroke advantage over the cut, with the sole aim of securing the card. It is their main goal, especially with the Solheim Cup in mind.
The fifth musketeer in card positions is Constanza Guerrero (-7). The Andalusian is right on the number after signing a score of 67 strokes this Friday, with seven birdies and two bogeys, both curiously on par 5s. Obviously, none of these five can be assured of the card, but they have good chances. They are the ones in the qualifying spots, and others will have to come from behind to take their position.
From here, there are three others in a good position for a final attack. María Parra (-6) is just one stroke behind after delivering one of the best cards of the day, a 67 at Al Maaden, a par 73 course. The player from Cádiz made five birdies and an eagle. Sensational. She arrives with excellent momentum to the final stretch, just as the finish line is in sight at the end of the road.
Amaia Latorre (-5), just two strokes from the target and climbing, with a round of 70 strokes today at Al Maaden, and Harang Lee (-4), three strokes from the card, still have much to say. The Cantabrian is going from strength to strength, but everything can change in tomorrow’s round. She already showed in the first round that she can go very low on these Moroccan courses.
As for the rest, the options are now very limited. Marina Escobar (+1) is eight strokes from the card, while Teresa Toscano (+3), Ana Pina (+4), María Herráez (+6), and Clara Moyano (+10) have made it almost impossible for themselves.
Beyond the Spanish players, the position of the Swedish player Ingrid Lindblad (-5) is surprising, as she is one of the favourites not only to secure the card but even to win the tournament. She is still in the fight, and we must count on her, but she will need to play good golf this Saturday.
