Teresa Toscano and Blanca Fernández have secured their cards for the Ladies European Tour through the School that concluded this Friday at the Al Maaden Golf Marrakech in Morocco. Two more Spaniards will join the European women’s tour Armada in 2025 after a brilliant performance in a tournament that is always challenging and very long, with five days of competition and 90 holes.
Toscano (-19) finished with a scorecard of 69 strokes, four under par. The golfer from La Monacilla in Huelva turned around a day of golf that started very poorly. Indeed, she began the day with two bogeys on holes 1 and 2. Quite the opposite of what one wants on a day like today. It’s true that the card was under control, as she started with a nine-stroke lead over the 35th position, but such a start can trigger any alarm.
The truth is Teresa wasted no time in extinguishing the fire. She responded with two consecutive birdies on holes 5 and 6, added another on the 10th, and with the card firmly in her pocket, she relaxed with three more birdies in the last five holes. Toscano, who also holds a card for the Epson Tour, has once again demonstrated her special knack for making birdies and how easily she goes under par. In this School Final, she signed scorecards below par for all five days, something only 10 other players achieved besides her. She finished in fifth position and also took home a cheque for 500 dollars.
Blanca (-17), on the other hand, started today a bit more pressed. It’s true that the goal was almost achieved, with a six-stroke margin, but she needed to finish the job and avoid setbacks. Her golf was powerful from start to finish. She dispelled any doubts with a birdie on the 1st hole. If there were nerves, they weren’t noticeable at all. Then, four more birdies followed for a sensational scorecard of 68 strokes, five under, without bogeys. And despite her great hitting, she could only take advantage of one of the five par 5s. Be that as it may, mission accomplished, sixth position, and card in the pocket. Blanca will also combine it with the Epson Tour, playing rights she earned with her performance at the School.
Teresa and Blanca were the only Spaniards to secure the card. A total of fifteen started the tournament. Harang Lee (-5) and Amaia Latorre (-4), who also started with chances in this final round, didn’t have the round they needed. Nerves and pressure took their toll. They scored 73 and 74 strokes and will have to settle for a conditional card that will allow them to play some tournaments, but not the full schedule. The top 20 and ties obtained the card, and up to the 50th position secured a minimal category.
Meanwhile, Clara Moyano (PAR) needed a spectacular round on this last day, similar to the Danish Cecilie Finne Ipsen, who signed 63 strokes, ten under par, to secure the card coming from far behind. It wasn’t to be. She scored 73 strokes, par, and finished in 61st position.
Among the players who secured the card, it’s worth highlighting the Ecuadorian Daniela Darquea (-24), winner of the tournament, the German Polly Mack, Blanca Fernández herself, and the Irish Sara Byrne. They all achieved the goal by arriving in Morocco directly from the LPGA Tour School Final. Quite an achievement. The top 20 and ties secured the card. In total, there were 24 players.
