Amaia Latorre (-5) has made a sensational start at the Jabra Ladies Open, a tournament on the Ladies European Tour taking place this week at the Evian Resort Golf Club. The golfer from Álava, who started her round from the 6th tee, carded a 66 with five birdies and no bogeys, placing her tied for second in the overall standings, just two strokes behind Sweden’s Moa Folke (-7), who leads the event solo.
The Spaniard, who began playing golf at just three years old in her hometown of Vitoria-Gasteiz, has managed to perform exceptionally well under challenging conditions, with rain making an appearance at the prestigious resort in Évian-les-Bains, France. She closed the first half of her round two under par and added three more birdies in the second half, two of them in her last three holes, to firmly place herself in contention and become, by far, the best of the Spanish players on the course.
Amaia finished tied for 32nd place at the Dutch Ladies Open, the only tournament on the circuit she had played this season until this week. The golfer from Vitoria will aim to maintain her strong start on Friday and Saturday (the tournament is played over three rounds) in search of her best-ever result on the LET. After these first 18 holes, she shares her position with Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen (-5), Thailand’s April Angurasaranee (-5), Australia’s Kelsey Bennett (-5), and the Czech Republic’s Sara Kouskov (-5).

María Hernández (PAR) and Marta Martín (PAR), tied for 25th place in the standings, are the next Spanish players on the leaderboard. Behind them, in 36th place, are Harang Lee (+1), Luna Sobrón (+1), and Nuria Iturrioz (+1). Things have been more challenging for Anna Huang (+2), Marta Sanz (+2), and especially for Ana Peláez (+4), Paz Marfá (+5), Clara Moyano (+6), Carmen Alonso (+7), and Blanca Fernández (+8), who are well down the leaderboard.
