Out of 151 contenders, only 66 remain standing after the long 72-hole sieve of the Final of the School of the Ladies European Tour (LET), which has been held on the Moroccan courses of Royal Golf de Marrakech and Al Madden Golf Marrakech, and now only the definitive fireworks remain, tomorrow on the second of the North African city’s courses, when the first 20 classified and tied will get the big prize they are chasing: the LET card for the coming course.
The balance of the Armada has been positive, as six of our 13 representatives have made the cut and, moreover, are in a good position to assault the big prize this Wednesday, as none have dropped out. The bar was finally set at +1.
Luna Sobrón (-11), sixth classified, continues to be the best Spanish thanks to her first two rounds (65 and 69), signing Monday par at Al Madden and doing the same this Tuesday at Royal Golf after a 72 after redirecting a bad start (three bogeys up to 7) thanks to four birdies up to 15. Pity the final error at 18. Even so, the Balearic has a five-stroke cushion before the final round over the 21st position.
Fátima Fernández Cano (-9) will also face the last 18 flags well placed. The Galician, eleventh, had an exceptional fourth round with six birdies and only two blots at Al Madden to gain nine places in the table. Even greater comeback was made by Paz Marfá (-7), whose continuity in the Final was in danger on the eve, when she was at par, and she shook off any doubt with one of the best cards of the day, an exceptional 66 with eight birdies like eight suns for a single bogey. Sixteenth, the Barcelona woman has embedded herself in the top 20 that would give her the right to the LET card. In the same location is the Madrid woman Marta Martín (-7) after shaving two strokes off Al Madden on this fourth day of competition, with three hits and a single error. The fifth one still alive and kicking is Teresa Díez Moliner (-6), just in the twenty-first place one stroke away from sneaking into the lucky top 20. The Pucelana tied with Royal Golf (72) with a poker of birdies and the same balance of bogeys. Her namesake from Huelva, Teresa Toscano (-5), will need to row a little more in the definitive round, as she is now 24th after signing par at Al Madden. Therefore, the half dozen representatives of the Armada competing on the fifth day will start with options to tie the LET card.
On the verge of continuing to litigate was Elena Hualde (+2), a single impact from continuing in competition (a pity the double bogey at 4 of Al Madden). Much further from the cut ended Elia Folch (+6), Natasha Fear (+9), Clara Moyano (+10), Marta Pérez (+10), Amaia Latorre (+11) and Harang Lee (+14).
The 20-year-old Russian Nataliya Guseva (-19), who continues in an enviable form after recently getting the LPGA card, continues to lead the table with a two-stroke lead over South African Cara Gorlei (-17) and three over Thai Aunchisa Utama (-15). Mexican Fernanda Lira (-14), first leader of the Final of the School of the LET, is fourth and English amateur Annabell Fuller (-13), gator partner in Florida of the Spaniards Marina Escobar and Paula de Francisco, fifth.
