Carla Bernat has a very intense schedule ahead this summer. This is what happens when you have won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and are one of the best in the world. All the tournaments want her to participate, and the golfer from Castellón also wants to play a lot to test herself before making the definitive leap to the professional world. She is practically not going to stop.
Everything starts this week with the US Open at Erin Hills, a tournament for which she qualified as the winner of the ANWA. Just a week later, she will compete in the Palmer Cup. She has included this tournament in her schedule as a gesture of gratitude and commitment to her coach at Kansas State, the Scotsman Stew Burke, who will also serve as the head coach of the international team during the match between the United States and the rest of the world.
Precisely, her presence in the Palmer Cup, along with Carolina López Chacarra and Andrea Revuelta, is the reason why none of them will be present at the Tenerife Women’s Open taking place next week at Abama Golf.
After the Palmer Cup, the following week, she will play her first tournament outside Spain on the Ladies European Tour. It will not be the Hulencourt Women’s Open in Belgium, the first she could play, as she will need rest. Thus, her international debut on the Ladies European Tour will take place at the Amundi German Masters, which will be held from June 26 to 29, where she has received an invitation.
In Germany, she will start another run of three consecutive tournaments, initially. From German lands, she will go to Ireland to play the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, although she still needs to have the invitation confirmed. Already in July, she will immediately compete in the Evian Championship, the third Major of her complete schedule. After the Evian, she will rest for a week and right after, she will play the fourth Major, the AIG Women’s Open, the Women’s British Open at Royal Porthcawl.
Once the Major season is over, it is likely that Carla will turn professional shortly after playing the British Open. Although it is not yet confirmed where she will make her pro debut, everything points to it being at the CPKC Canadian Open of the LPGA Tour, a tournament that has traditionally invited the winner of the ANWA. Carla’s main objective, with this tight schedule of eight tournaments in about three months, besides gaining experience, is to climb the world rankings to avoid the first stage of the LPGA Tour School. For this, she should get into the top 400 in the world.
