The Mallorca Ladies Golf Open is cancelled. This has been announced by the Ladies European Tour to the players on the circuit.
The tournament was expected to be held from 21 to 23 November at Son Muntaner and will finally not take place due to insufficient funding to carry out the tournament under a minimum of necessary conditions. As of this morning, it no longer appears on the tour calendar.
The promoter and the circuit have been forced to break the link due to the lack of public aid initially planned. The decision is surprising since the tournament had been officially announced earlier.
This decision is a major setback for many players as there are now only five tournaments left before the end of the year at the Open de España and four of them, Thailand, Riyadh, India and Taiwan are tournaments with a very reduced field. The first two are Aramco tournaments with 80 players and the one in Taiwan is co-sanctioned with the circuit there and the LET only has 60 places (including invitations). India is a tournament with 70 players. Mallorca also had a field of 70 players, but for example the Spanish had more chances of receiving an invitation that would allow them to add more to the Order of Merit.
The golfers who are playing for next year’s rights lose a bullet that could be crucial. It is surprising that the circuit has not been able to find a solution to a problem that has been long in coming. Next week’s Lacoste Ladies Open (96 places) could become the last place of the season for many players.
Alexandra Forsterling therefore remains the only winner of the Mallorca Golf Open. It is unknown at this time whether the tournament will try to return to the 2025 calendar or whether it will have to wait to put Mallorca back on the Ladies European Tour season.
