The bear’s skin is not sold until it is hunted. This is taught in the first year of sports competition. However, there are situations that invite optimism, and this is one of them. It is not done yet because there are 18 holes left and anything can happen, but Teresa Toscano (-15) and Blanca Fernández (-12) practically have the Ladies European Tour card for 2025 firmly in their hands. Interestingly, two golfers who already have the Epson Tour card, the second division of the LPGA Tour, in their pocket.
As you know, the top 20 and ties at the end of the tournament this Friday get the card, or in other words, when the fifth and final round is completed. Well, right now the 20th place is at six under par, which means Teresa, in third place, has a nine-shot margin, and Blanca, in sixth, enjoys six.
Teresa’s situation can almost be taken for granted. Only a cataclysm could prevent her from securing full rights to the Ladies European Tour this Friday. Blanca’s situation might not be a cataclysm, but it would be an absolute debacle. The two Spaniards have a margin and, above all, are playing well. They have permission to take a look at the LET calendar tonight and plan some trips. With due caution regarding skins and bears, but with optimism.
Toscano, a golfer from Huelva, from La Monacilla, presented a card of 69 strokes this Thursday at Al Maaden Golf Marrakech, with a magnificent production of six birdies and two bogeys. Her goal could well be to win the School Final tomorrow, as she is four strokes behind the leader, Daniela Darquea (-19), an Ecuadorian golfer. In second place is Polly Mack (-17), a German player.
Blanca Fernández (-12), on the other hand, played over par today at Royal Golf Marrakech. She scored 73 strokes, with two birdies and three bogeys. It wasn’t a good day, but she managed to contain the damage and has her goal well on track.
Beyond Teresa and Blanca, there are two serious candidates to also make it into the top 20 of the tournament tomorrow. They are Harang Lee (-5) and Amaia Latorre (-5). Both have it within reach, just one stroke away. Harang has been on an upward trajectory since this final began. Today she scored 69 strokes at Al Maaden, including an eagle, while Amaia is going in the opposite direction. Today she scored 71 at Royal Golf, but she really only has one round left and it’s in her hands.
The fifth Spaniard with a mathematical chance of securing the card is Clara Moyano (PAR). She has made the cut and will have an opportunity tomorrow, although she will need a very low round. Normally, the cut for the card is expected to be at six or seven under par.
These five are the only Spaniards who made the cut for the fourth round out of the fifteen who started this final. It has been especially painful for Paz Marfá (+2) and Marta Sanz (+2) to be left out. The Madrid native finished with a cruel bogey on the 17th hole, leaving her just out of the final round. Beyond not being able to fight for the card, they also miss the chance to secure a conditional category. From 21st to 50th place, they could still play something next year. It won’t be possible.
Also out are Natasha Fear, María Herráez, Marina Escobar, María Parra, Marta Pérez, Teresa Díez Moliner, Miriam Ayora, and Laura Gómez, who withdrew after the second round.
