Bryson DeChambeau is one of the big stars of LIV Golf and one of the visible faces of the tour since in 2022 he decided to change the course of his career, coming from the PGA Tour. The Californian has also been one of the players who have most forcefully defended the Saudi-backed tour project. But now that reports point to the PIF cutting funding at the end of the year, doubts about his position are evident.

The ‘scientist’ says he is committed and solely focused on working to ensure the league continues beyond 2026. But at the same time, he does not confirm that he will renew his contract, which expires at the end of this year. He hints that he believes “there will be a solution” and that work is being done on his renewal, but not with the firmness one would expect from someone who is supposed to be one of the figureheads of LIV Golf and who, in theory, is focused on ensuring the circuit’s future viability.

In an interview with Flushing It Golf after LIV Golf in Mexico City, Bryson said: “There are a lot of moving pieces, as in any business. It’s a startup, right? And there will be moments when they squeeze us and hit us. This is one of those moments. But I’m going to do everything in my power to make it work and I really see the value of franchise golf”.

“We’re still working on a possible contract. I haven’t given up on it and I believe there will be a solution. But right now my job is to help the league function…”

“Another reason I’m doing this is not just for myself and for the team aspect that I really believe in with the Crushers. It’s for Michael LaSasso. It’s for Caleb Surratt. It’s for Josele Ballester. It’s for David Puig… Jon, Phil, DJ, myself and the guys who have been here since the start, we’re fine. Now it’s our responsibility to take care of these young players who believe in us. That’s why I’m really doing it. There’s a huge amount of value to be taken from all this for golf in general”, he added.

That said, when he had to talk about his future in LIV, DeChambeau said: “We’re still working on a possible contract. I haven’t given up on it and I believe there will be a solution. But right now my job is to help the league function after this year. I feel that I have a responsibility. I’ve put a lot of effort into it. So that’s what I’m going to do, we’re going to make it work. As long as LIV remains here, I’ll find a way for it to make sense”. It’s in his hands to clear the doubts… by renewing.
