Bryson DeChambeau has a four-shot lead at the LIV Golf in South Korea with one round to go. Everything is in his hands to achieve his first victory in 2025 and the third in the Saudi league. He still has to finish the job, but he is confident that he can steer the ship to a good port at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon.
The reigning US Open champion admitted after the second round that he had a scare during his practice session before heading out to play this Saturday. Specifically, due to the distance his wedges were achieving. “The conditions were adverse. My pitching wedge was going between 140 and 145 yards (126 and 131 metres). At first, it alarmed me a bit. But when we went out to the golf course, we quickly saw that it wasn’t the case. It was very cold this morning. I went to the practice field and the conditions were tough. I’m giving myself many opportunities and if I keep doing the same, it will be a great Sunday. So I must focus on having fun and playing like a child.”
DeChambeau has been in the featured group in the last three tournaments he has played, and in none of them has he managed to secure victory. However, he is convinced he knows the recipe to finally lift the trophy in Incheon. “It’s simply playing like a child, having a lot of fun, being smart, executing as I know how to do, and consolidating the swing, making sure I’m swinging correctly and continuing to play the golf I know how to play,” he states. It’s that simple.
On another note, DeChambeau revealed which other sports he has practised, which one he believes he could have been professional in, his favourite Korean food, and his best Korean friend. “I played volleyball in high school, I was a middle hitter. Surprisingly, I could jump quite a bit. I also played ping pong, I love ping pong. It’s one of my favourite sports. Maybe I could have been professional if I had pursued it after high school, but I was a bit better at golf. Those were the two sports I liked the most. I also played a bit of basketball, baseball when I was very young, and football in secondary school. But mainly golf, volleyball, and ping pong. I love Korean barbecue, the marinated galbi meat is amazing. We’ll probably go tonight. We’re going with the team to have a good time. Danny Lee is a good friend. Kevin Na is a super nice guy. Those two have been great since before LIV. Now in LIV, we are good friends and tease each other all the time. But Danny is a very special person, I assure you. He’s amazing.”
