Bryson DeChambeau continues to build momentum. The American opened with a strong 63 (-8) in the first round of LIV Golf South Africa, leaving him co-leader after day one and firmly in control early in the week.

“I’m trying, man. I’m fighting hard and playing some good golf,” DeChambeau said. “It’s a different test, but I played really well today and made some good putts.”

A confident start

DeChambeau’s round was highlighted by solid ball-striking and an effective performance on the greens, allowing him to set the pace from the outset. While he admitted there are still small areas to fine-tune, his overall feeling remains very positive.

“My driver just got a little quirky today,” he explained. “But I still feel like I’m playing really good, swinging it well. I’m just going to tighten it up a little bit.”

A strong endorsement of LIV Golf

Beyond his performance, DeChambeau once again voiced his belief in LIV Golf and its potential to grow the game globally.

“This is what LIV was supposed to be and is and what it can be, not only here but in the States as well,” he said. “I hope people can see the value in what we bring to the game of golf. It’s pretty awesome to see what the full product of LIV is.”

“I feel really comfortable with my game”

Asked about his current level and the ongoing attention surrounding his approach, DeChambeau downplayed the noise and focused on his performance.

“I say one little thing and everybody takes it and runs with it,” he said. “But for the most part, I feel really comfortable with my game.”

With three rounds remaining and sitting atop the leaderboard, DeChambeau has given himself a perfect platform to contend for the title.
