Dustin Johnson again acted as a leader on and off the course at LIV Golf Singapore. The American closed the tournament with a final round of 69 strokes (-2) to finish inside the top 10, while captaining the 4Aces GC to another victory in the team standings, the squad’s second consecutive win on the Saudi circuit. And at the winners’ press conference, the man from South Carolina launched a small barb at two former members of his squad…
Johnson highlighted after the tournament the collective solidity of his team, key to winning again. “It feels very good, especially because all four of us are playing very well”, he explained. “We knew that if all four of us played well we would be a very hard team to beat”.
The captain of the 4Aces wanted to particularly highlight his teammates’ performances in a week that was demanding because of the course and the conditions. “Everyone played pretty solidly. Especially Thomas Pieters today, who was very good and finished very strong. Thomas Detry also played very solidly”, he commented.
The Sentosa Golf Club course again demanded the utmost from the players throughout the week. “It’s a tough course and the conditions weren’t easy, with stoppages and changes during the day, but the guys held up very well and we achieved another victory”, added DJ.
Beyond the sporting performance, the American also highlighted the excellent dynamic the team experiences off the course. “It’s very easy. Everyone works hard, we get on very well and there’s no drama. It’s been a very pleasant year so far”, he explained.
Johnson even compared the current atmosphere with previous phases of the team. “Not necessarily drama, but with Harold (Varner) and Patrick Reed there was always something going on. Now we get on very well, we have a lot of fun and we’re also playing well”, he said with a laugh.
The celebration of the victory will be brief for the captain of 4Aces, who will not stay too long in Singapore. “Maybe some of the team will go out to dinner, but I will probably get on a plane direct to South Africa”, he revealed.
The goal now is clear: to keep extending the streak. “Three in a row? Hopefully. That’s the plan”, concluded Johnson.
With the win in Singapore, 4Aces GC confirms its bid to dominate the LIV Golf season and once again shows that, when all its players perform at the same time, it is one of the most fearsome teams on the circuit.
