LIV Golf has appointed Scott O’Neil as the new CEO of the Saudi circuit, replacing Greg Norman, who has held the position since its inception in 2021. It has been official for a few months that the Australian would not continue in the role, and now his replacement is known.
O’Neil will lead the strategic vision, business operations, and global growth of the team golf circuit, according to a statement from LIV Golf: “Scott has the passion, tenacity, and vision to continue leveraging LIV Golf’s position as a preeminent global sports and entertainment company, and to lead our incredible teams and players in the coming years,” said Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Chairman of the Board of LIV Golf.
O’Neil has more than 25 years of experience in leading and managing global sports and entertainment brands. He was previously CEO of Merlin Entertainments and before that CEO of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment.
“What LIV Golf has achieved in just three years is extraordinary,” said O’Neil. “The game has been infused with a burst of energy and innovation that was long overdue with the team model.”
Al-Rumayyan thanked Norman, the Australian two-time Major winner, who was the league’s first CEO and Commissioner: “When we launched LIV Golf, there was no one who made more sense to lead the organisation than Greg Norman,” he said.
“I thank him for everything he has done to establish, launch, and grow our league. He has been instrumental to LIV’s success,” without specifying what will happen with Norman and what his role will be in the circuit.
