Jon Rahm has always valued finishing tournaments as high as possible. Even when victory is out of reach, the golfer from Barrika always wants to finish in the best position he can. He never lets himself go. Or almost never. He especially values the number of top 10 finishes in his career. And rightly so. Among tournaments counting towards the world ranking and those of LIV Golf, Rahm has already played 202 in his career, won 22, and finished in the top 10 on 116 occasions. As it stands, his percentage of top ten finishes is an outstanding 57.42%.
The statistic soars in LIV Golf. As you know, Jon has always finished in the top ten since joining the Saudi league. Always means always. He has played 18 events (twelve from last year and six from the current season) and has never finished lower than eleventh place. He values that consistency but admits he lacks victories. He misses them. He has enough experience not to raise any alarms, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting to finally celebrate his first individual triumph in 2025.
“I have been playing very well consistently, obviously finishing in high positions. But I haven’t won yet, and that’s the most important thing. Although I like being in the top 10 and being a good player every week, winning is obviously what matters most. I would gladly trade some of those top 10s for more victories,” he stated today in his talk with the media in South Korea ahead of the next LIV tournament.
Rahm is convinced that victory is imminent, which is why he asks for calm. “I keep playing well, I keep getting close, it’s just that sometimes I make the exact mistakes that mean I’m not close enough to contest the title in the last nine holes on Sunday. If I can correct that, I know I’m playing well enough to win. Sometimes a season changes with a single shot or a hole. Hopefully, I can ignite that spark and finish the year strong, like last year,” he notes.
The best ally for his apparent patience is, precisely, experience. Last year he experienced a very similar situation. After stringing together nine consecutive top 10s in LIV Golf, he achieved his first victory right after Valderrama and won once more a little later in Chicago. “There’s a lot of golf left to play. Many big events are coming, and there are still many points at stake in the majors. Hopefully, there will also be important things at the end of the year. I want to win. I hope my first victory of the season comes this week. The course looks fantastic, I’m really looking forward to playing it. I feel like I’m playing well enough to win any week. I hope it’s sooner rather than later,” he explains in reference to LIV Golf Korea starting this Friday.
Beyond his individual performance, Jon values very positively what they are doing as a team with Legion XIII. They are leading the standings. “I’ve always felt it’s easier for the public to support a team than an individual. I think this creates a broader fan base. With what LIV is doing, something new is being brought to golf. I’ve always liked being part of a team. All my life I was part of teams until I turned professional. All my happiest memories in golf have been when we achieved something as a team. It’s much more fun to celebrate together. Although individual victories are great and you have your own personal team, it’s not the same as sharing the podium with someone and celebrating with them,” he points out.
