Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the LIV Golf in Houston this Saturday, having only played six of the 18 holes of his round. The golfer from Barrika had to be treated yesterday before going out to play. The problem is a wound that has formed between two toes of his left foot that has become infected. On Friday, he was seen in pain when hitting the ball from the tee of hole 7, which set off all the alarms. Afterwards, he was able to complete his round with apparent normality, but today he has barely been able to spend just over an hour on the Houston Golf Club course before abandoning the tournament. Before going out to play, he was attended by doctors, they drained the wound to remove the infection and gave him antibiotics.
The Spanish golfer began to play today at hole 5 and after six consecutive pars, he decided to end his presence in this eighth event of the Saudi tour. The best way to heal an infected wound is not exactly with the foot inside a shoe and with the inherent moisture of sweat. We will have to wait to see how it evolves, although according to Ten Golf, the US Open at Pinehurst next week, the third major of the season and in which Rahm has many hopes, is not in jeopardy for the Spanish golfer. Both he and his team are convinced that he will be ready to train and play on Thursday, although his first practice day may be delayed until Tuesday. We’ll see. For now, he stays in Houston until the end of the tournament to support the team as captain.

Jon changed his usual routines before the Majors, after his poor results in the Masters and the PGA Championship, and earlier this week he visited the course where the USGA event will be played. He arrived in Pinehurst on Saturday and played on Sunday and Monday alongside Phil Mickelson. Now he will have a few days ahead to recover from the problem that forced him to abandon this LIV Golf in Houston event before trying to fight for victory in Pinehurst. Legion XIII, his team, will not be able to replace him today, so the results of his three teammates in the team classification will count.
