Michael Jordan has arrived on the Costa del Sol. The world basketball legend landed this Tuesday at Málaga airport with the aim of taking part in the Pro-Am of LIV Golf Andalucía being held this week at Real Club Valderrama. Málaga media outlets have confirmed the presence of Jordan’s private jet and sources close to the tournament consulted by Ten Golf have not denied his participation in the event ahead of the official competition.
Jordan, a six-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, has been a keen golfer for decades and often uses his visits to Spain to enjoy his passion for the game. Even during the Barcelona Olympic Games he hardly stopped playing for a single day. He will now play at Valderrama.
The final clue to his arrival appeared at Málaga-Costa del Sol airport. His spectacular private jet, a Gulfstream G650ER, was photographed this Tuesday in the executive aviation area. It is an aircraft easily recognisable for its striking black livery with details inspired by the iconic Air Jordan trainers and, above all, for the famous white “Jumpman” logo it sports on the tail.
The jet is a genuine gem of private aviation. It is valued at around $78 million, can carry up to 19 passengers and has a range capable of covering non-stop intercontinental flights. In addition, its personalised registration, N236MJ, contains several nods to Jordan’s sporting career: 23 from his legendary shirt, the 6 for the rings won with the Bulls and his initials, MJ.
Although the reason for his trip has not been officially confirmed, Ten Golf attempted to confirm his participation on Wednesday in the Pro-Am of LIV Golf Andalucía at Valderrama and sources did not deny it, despite his name not appearing in any of the official Pro-Am participant documents. It would not be the first time the name of a celebrity of this calibre has been ‘hidden’ until the last moment. Airport sources have told various Málaga outlets of a notable increase in private flights from the United States and other countries coinciding with the tournament taking place in Sotogrande.
Jordan’s presence is a surprise. It is particularly striking and speaks volumes about Valderrama that Air 23 has decided to play in Sotogrande, despite there being several LIV Golf tournaments held in the United States where it would be easier for him. In any case, the American maintains close ties with numerous figures in professional golf and is often seen taking part in events linked to the sport. His appearance in the Pro-Am would add even more shine to a week that will already feature top names such as Jon Rahm, Sergio García, Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquín Niemann, and Dustin Johnson.
Valderrama is thus preparing for one of the most important weeks of the year and also to welcome one of the greatest legends in the history of world sport. Among the participants, in addition to Jordan, are expected chef Dani García and footballer Luis Milla.
