Joaquín Niemann arrives at the final individual tournament of the 2025 LIV Golf season as the leader of the overall standings, with just over a 12-point advantage over Jon Rahm, the only player who still has a mathematical chance of snatching the victory in the circuit’s order of merit and the 18 million dollar cheque that the tour awards to its annual winner. An excellent situation, in principle, but not without difficulty after what happened last week in Chicago, where he barely scored points and his main rival for the title nearly won.
“It’s a good opportunity to prove to myself that I need to focus on my process, my game, and the shots I’m making, without looking at the result, the standings, or the points,” he commented today in Chilean, accompanied by his team, at the official press conference before the event in Indianapolis which takes place from Friday to Sunday. Joaco knows that he depends on himself, but also that he faces a tough opponent: “It’s always fun when you compete against someone who is playing their best golf and you’re playing yours too.”
For Niemann, facing the champion from Barrika is very special: “Playing against Jon is fun, he’s always there, never gives away a shot, and that pushes you to be better, to go home, work, and come back to try to beat him.” And although his main goal is the individual overall, he doesn’t forget the team battle: “As a captain, the only thing you can do is worry about what you can control. You can’t force a result, we all know that. It’s great to be in this position, in the last two weeks of the season, which are very important for us, and we’re in a great moment.”
The Chilean has achieved five victories this year on the Saudi tour, however, he has not yet been able to seal the individual title due to his poor results in the weeks when he didn’t manage to win. Joaquín adds to his triumphs two results in tied 33rd place, another two in tied 23rd place, a tied 20th place, a tied 17th, and a tied 12th, always outside the top ten in the weeks when he hasn’t managed to lift the individual trophy.
