LIV Golf announced this Tuesday that Mexican Abraham Ancer will leave the Fireballs GC to join Torque GC for the 2026 season. This confirms the news that Ten Golf reported almost a month ago. The next step will be to officially announce the signing of Luis Masaveu by the Fireballs to fill the vacancy left by Ancer. Ancer will share the team with captain Joaco Niemann, Juan Sebastián Muñoz, and his compatriot Carlos Ortiz.
Ancer, a Torque; Masaveu, a Fireballs: el movimiento que ya se ultima en LIV Golf
A top 12 player in the league in 2024 and 2025, Ancer joins Torque GC after four seasons of great consistency with Fireballs, with standout performances such as the victory in Hong Kong after defeating Cameron Smith and Paul Casey in a playoff.
“I would like to thank the players, caddies, and staff of Fireballs GC for these last four years and for helping me grow as a person and as a player,” said Ancer. “I will be eternally grateful for that stage of my career and wish them all the best in 2026 and beyond. Joining Torque GC is an exciting next step, both personally and professionally. Competing as part of a fully Latin team alongside close friends, whom I admire on and off the course, adds a level of connection and purpose that I am eager to be part of.”
Born in Mexico and one of the most acclaimed players the country has produced, Ancer joins Torque as a local hero whose career has been built on discipline, resilience, and an unwavering belief that Latin American golf deserves to be on the biggest stages of this sport. His addition strengthens the role of Torque GC, a team united by culture and fearless pride, carrying the weight of an entire continent in LIV Golf.
“Abraham is a proven winner and a fierce competitor, and we are proud to welcome him to Torque GC,” said Torque GC captain Joaquín Niemann. “As a fully Latin American team, we play with shared pride, duty, and purpose, and Abraham embodies all of that. His arrival makes us stronger and deepens the bond that drives everything we do.”
Ancer achieved three top 10 finishes in 2025 —with eight results within the points— and contributed to six podiums for the Fireballs, including three consecutive team victories at the start of the season.
“Abraham has been a cornerstone of Fireballs GC from day one,” said Fireballs captain Sergio García. “He has been fundamental in building the culture of this team, setting the standard for how we prepare, compete, and represent our club. His impact here goes far beyond the scorecard, and that kind of influence stays with you long after someone moves on.”
A significant figure in LIV Golf since joining the league in 2022, Ancer finished his debut season within the top 20 of the individual rankings and opened 2023 with a wire-to-wire victory at the PIF Saudi International. That year included a podium finish at LIV Golf Bedminster and two team victories with Fireballs. He closed the calendar year with a gold medal at the Pan American Games, surpassing his new teammate Sebastian Muñoz by one stroke.
Since turning professional in 2013, Ancer’s resume has been defined by perseverance and consistency. After securing his first professional victory at the Nova Scotia Open 2015, Ancer achieved top-tier results, with milestones such as winning the Australian Open 2018, a standout performance for Mexico in the World Cup, and an exceptional debut with the International Team in the Presidents Cup 2019, where he tied as the most productive player with 3.5 points. His most memorable breakthrough came at the 2020 Masters, where he faced Sunday in the final group after sharing the lead after 36 holes.
His momentum continued in 2021: he was runner-up at the Wells Fargo Championship, achieved a top 10 at the PGA Championship, competed for Mexico in the Tokyo Olympics, and secured one of the biggest victories of his career at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
In 2024, Ancer played some of the most complete rounds of his career. In addition to his triumph at the LIV Golf in Hong Kong, he added three additional top 10 finishes and finished 12th in the annual rankings. He also helped Fireballs win in Valderrama and represented Mexico in the Paris 2024 Olympics, in his second Olympic appearance.
Ancer will open his 2026 season with Torque GC at the LIV Golf Riyadh presented by ROSHN Group, from 4 to 7 February. The team now boasts four players who finished the 2025 season within the top 12, including Chilean captain Joaquín Niemann (2nd), Colombian Muñoz (4th), and Mexican Carlos Ortiz (8th), who has played alongside Ancer in the Olympics and also with Fireballs.
