The possibility of Victor Perez playing in LIV Golf next season had gained a lot of traction in recent hours. However, there is now official confirmation of the information previously reported by Tom Kershaw in The Times, and the Frenchman joins the Saudi circuit.
The announcement was expected to be made tomorrow as the detail that set off all the alarms came from the social media accounts of Cleeks GC themselves. The franchise posted an image of a golf bag —without a visible name— accompanied by a message in French and a date: tomorrow. The circuit itself did not wait any longer and announced the signing of what will be the first Frenchman to play in LIV.
Perez will take the place left vacant by Freddie Kjettrup, who was relegated at the end of the last season. The Frenchman, currently ranked 122nd in the World Ranking, thus becomes the new piece of a team that was seeking a well-established profile.
A few minutes after the announcement, the PGA Tour announced that he is withdrawing from the RSM Classic. At this moment, Perez holds a PGA Tour card and is ranked 108th in the FedExCup. He only had this week’s tournament to try to break into the top one hundred who would retain their card. Once the signing with LIV was announced, his PGA Tour card becomes irrelevant, and he will not play this week.
