The signing of Jon Rahm by LIV Golf, announced at the end of December and with astronomical amounts involved, is still a talking point. The latest to comment on the matter has been Manuel Pellegrini, the Chilean coach of Betis, who referred to the golfer from Barrika in a press conference held this Friday to answer a question about the departure of his team’s sports director until this Wednesday, Ramón Planes, to the Saudi Professional League.

“The issue of Arabia is not simple, perhaps many people only see it as an economic part and it is not just that,” began the Betis coach. “Outside of football, in golf, if Jon Rahm is offered 500 million, he must feel tremendous pride because he has dedicated himself to golf and someone wants to pay him 500 million to go and play golf there and he must produce the 500 million,” said the Engineer, a great fan of the sport of clubs.

“For the rest of the athletes it is the same. Why should a person think only about the money because they want to pay for what he does? He is good at what he does. I think that contracts, within any coach or players, have a termination clause, for the club and for the person. The clause existed, there is no illegality, the contract is fulfilled by both parties,” concluded Pellegrini, who was also tempted by Saudi football with a super offer last summer that he ended up declining.
